How do I create 18th century cravats

    Break it down into parts.  What you have are three parts: the part wrapped around the neck, the bow, and the ruffles. 

    The neck wrapping is pretty much a loose tube that is allowed to crumple down into folds.  (White piece in the example.)

    You can optionally create a second piece that is the final wrap of the cravat, to attach the bow onto, as I have done in the example (Red color)

    The bow, you can make with a rectangle folded onto itself, with the middle sewn to the ends as well.  (Blue colored piece.)

    Then cover the gathering with another piece.   

     

    For the ruffles, I would actually make those as attached to the neckline opening of the shirt, and not the cravat itself.  To make ruffles, simply sew a long rectangle onto a shorter length edge.  MD will automatically do the ruffling.   

     

    Here in the example pic, I've colored the different pieces so you can see how they fit together.  You would, of course make them all the same material.
