help. trying to make a tight karate belt knot.

  • rosemaryr 评论操作 固定链接

The trick is to NOT rely on the knot to hold the belt together.  Instead, create your belt as one piece with the ends sewn together, then construct the knot over that seam joint, as additional decoration.  This prevents the stress from causing the mesh interactions.

thanks so much for your prompt reply Rosemary!, that makes a lot of sense.
and regarding the knot itself, do you have any hints for me to about that mesh collision? when I tried doing the loops and slowly tried to make it look a bit tighter for believability I always end up getting mesh intersections. would you go just partially freezing parts or is there a better way?

and again thanks so much for the tips

Knots in MD. Single click tracing.

An update to an old knot technique I did 7 years ago. Only this is better, faster and makes more complex knots off any free knot software, which means hundreds of free knots to add into your MD library.

In MD you can import a flat 2D polymesh knot created as a 3 faced tube (remove two sides so you have a single flat strip) and then you can apply thicken with curved edges to make it into a rope/cord that simulates - takes about 5 minutes maximum to achieve.

Knotmaker  Use this reference to draw a knot and load it as a image to trace over in MD with an internal line - as per my original demo on how to drop a knot. That will give you a consistent process for getting all type of knots simply into MD. Basically one process that does it all.

    PROCESS STEPS:

Quickly draw a new knot type in the app. (Build your own MD knot library resource) > How I make all my knots quickly in MD.

Pick from an active list of knots or find other online - literally hundreds.

    Custom create your own knot

Remove two sides of your 3D exported knot (eg: in 3D modeling software like blender) so you have a single continuous flat strip of the knot model in the software - usually this can be done in a single face selection, about 2 clicks.

Import the new strip object knot as avatar into MD > Flatten object faces in MD in single click.(this avoids the rather poor MD trace UV option which can give crappy results).

Any complexity is possible. If you have a closed shape strip > Add in a single split line if you have closed shapes. (see animated gif below) The beauty of this process is your knot is converted to a 2D pattern and also assembled in 3D ready to simulate into your project. So no complex gymnastics with the mouse and pinning - just one click and bam - finished - pattern for knot.
