hi, I am trying to create a walk animation of an avatar with some pants I created. The pants are supposed to be low on the hips but when I record the walk animation they keep slipping up to the avatar waist and even higher. I tried to perhaps use pins to keep the pants low but this creates artefacts during animation. Does anyone has any suggestions, please? thanks,. Beppe
Could you post some screen-shots, please? Be sure to include the 2D window pattern layout, as well as a 3D window shot of the problem as it looks. Sometimes, a written description isn't quite enough to make an analysis from.
A couple of things to try:
Use the Line Tack on Avatar to connect the waistband to the avatar at the hip level. That should prevent the pants from rising up.
Next, when recording the animation, adjust the Scene Time Warp to 2, or possibly 3. This will make the recording take longer, but it makes the simulation more accurate, which should help that mesh interaction you see in the second picture. As it is, your avatar is probably moving too fast for an accurate sim: too much movement per frame leads to the program trying to move the cloth mesh too far, too fast for any individual frame. You will (after having recorded it) then have to play it back faster to have a normal walking speed.
Lastly, while drop-crotch pants may be 'fashionable' they really aren't comfortable for normal-length walking strides. The garment above the crotch seam will act as a moderately tight skirt, and restrict the movement of the legs as a person walks. But in MD, the avatar doesn't conform to the garment's limitations: the cloth has to conform to the hard surface of the avatar, and if it can't, the mesh will start intersecting as you have seen. You may want to look into getting a walk movement file that has shorter strides, if you can, or possibly make the pants wider in that area (gathering more cloth at the hips) to accommodate the leg movement.
hi Rosemary, thanks for the info, that's a great help. I will try what you suggest. Much appreciated. Beppe
