delete hair/shoes option greyed out

i'm trying to create my own shoes and need to get rid of the models shoes but the option is grayed out and i'm not sure how to get around this. is there any solution?

    Hi Marston
    First select the shoes, individually, and apply the delete hair/shoes option by right click on them. 
    If doing this the option is still grey, please send the project file and screenshots of the error to our contact us page. So we can take a look at it.
