How to prevent folds from hood to shoulders?

    Well, the folds are there in the reference pic.  Since you are working from a real pattern for the coif, you will need a few adjustments.

    First, make it a little bit bigger.  As you can see in the MD 3D screenshot, your head area is a bit tight:  the ears and chin are quite visibly pushing out against the cloth.  And the 2D pattern, compared to the head silhouette, doesn't allow for the depth of the head.  You want enough cloth to go around that third dimension: not a paper-doll match of the silhouette.

    Second, lay down internal lines to establish the quilting pattern, then use the Layer clone technique to make the quilted cloth.  The extra layer of cloth will add more structure and a bit more stiffness.  This will help both with the tightness and reduce that folding at the neck.

    Third, use another fabric than the default:  try a denim or heavy cotton choice.  Again, this should reduce the folding effect.

    Thanks for the tips, highly appreciated!

    Yes the fold is also present in the reference, but mine is way bigger than there.
    Sorry, had to take a screenshot of the entire 2d view perhaps since it's not clearly visible in the screenshot, but I have a mid-section on the hood pattern so that I have more control over how tight the hood is over the head.

    Anyways I tried your methods and the result is still the same.

    I made the pattern bigger, which resulted in the folds being raised a little higher.
    I changed from Wool to Denim and Cotton Heavy, which did make the fabric more stiff which is good but didn't remove any folding.
    I also added offset lines and layer clone over, but it only resulted in making the fabric more thick and stiff.

    I feel like i have to cut out a piece of the pattern in the middle where the fold is located?

    Here are my results;

    After trying out multiple different pattern techniques (or however you would want to phrase that), this is what i've come up with.

    Yes, it's getting there.  Also, if you are planning to cover it with a helmet, a lot won't show, so don't fret too much.

    Thanks, yes I will make multiple versions of this; one for underneath X helmet, one for riveted chainmail and one without any covering. This will just be my base mes for now.
