Basic Tape Measurement line keeps switching to back of avatar

I've imported a female avatar from zbrush but now when I measure her chest width the purple line automatically switches to the back of the avatar as I trace it. I keep the avatar view at front and 3/4 as I measure. But the purple line keep switching to the back. Is there a way to prevent this?

    When you measure a girth using a tape, you need to click three points on the model to lay the girth tap, this defines the surface points the line will cross through.

    It's all in the click and lay point technique. Lay the first point > use the shift key to bring up the auto-snap to guideline drafting assistant to lay the 2nd and 3rd points.
