It should be obvious by now, but you need to simplify the pattern tracing workflow. It is a tedious process to have to create a piece of cloth in a square or rectangle, assign a material to it, import the image and then spend a lot of time trying to get it so that it displays properly on the piece of fabric before you can trace over it. Marvelous Designer should include a "Create a pattern Function that just imports the image and allows you to use the MD tools to trace the pattern and when you're done, click the button and the traced pattern piece is loaded to your project.

We have the option to import a background image to trace and recommend this method over importing an image as a texture like you described above. At this time we do not have a feature to auto trace an image but you can still manually work with this method. Best of luck!
