Can't import OBJ to Garment (2D window shows a distorted mess)

When I import an OBJ to Garment the 2d window shows this weird distortion that I can't even select or click on. The 3d windows shows all pattern pieces as one piece.

When I did the exact same thing in MD9 (trial version) using the exact same OBJ it imported fine and separated each pattern piece. I tried to re-install, tried to update to the new patch, tried different kinds of OBJs, but nothing works. Anyone else encounter this??

Same.

3DS Max -> mesh/poly -> OBJ ->Add to garment = as above

Needs an unwrap.
