Ive finished an outfit in Marvelous Designer 2024, and I want to texture it in substance painter. Ive laid out the UVs in the UV Editor window, and baked the existing fabrics. Then I exported the garments as an OBJ. I chose the 'thick' option as this is what Ive been previewing in the MD viewport all this time.
But when I went back nd checked the UV Editor Window, nothing changed. The UV's are still as though the fabrics are a single surface, whereas I would have expected all of the surfaces to have a front and back to them since its now a volume.
Anyways, I imported the OBJ into maya just to check, and sure enough, the thickness is there, but the UV's for each pattern are overlapping! So obviously, when i bring this model into substnce painter, I cant bake the mesh maps correctly.
So i guess Im confused as to how this workflow is supposed to go. If I need the garments to have thickness, how do I setup the UVs in MD correctly? While I can manually fix them in Maya, this is a major pain and Id never be able to do sims in MD because I wouldnt be able to apply the Substance textures to them.
Can someone fill me in on the correct workflow for garments with thickness going to substance painter?
