Structure of The Modular Library
Modular Library
Objective
Quickly and easily create different variations using previously saved garment blocks within Marvelous Designer. This section contains all of your blocks for mixing and matching different styles. Here you can also create and save: Groups, Categories, Styles, and Blocks.
Location
Main Menu ▶ Window ▶ Modular Library
Side Panel Title Bar ▶ Right-click Dropdown Menu ▶ Modular Library
※Note: The buttons on the top right are:
- Add (to add in a new Group or Category)
- List (To switch between a list and icons)
- Refresh (update to view any changes)
Structure of the Libraries
By default, the Modular Library is organized by Group, Category and Style.
This is where all of your blocks will be to mix and match different styles and blocks, here you can also create and save groups, categories, styles and blocks.
Group and Category
Both of these sections are Folder based; meaning you can bring in folders from anywhere you have access and also create folders anywhere you have access too.

- Click
Add button to add your folder to a Group.
- Doble-click the Group folder to navigate into the Category.
- in Category stage, click
Add button and enter the name to add a new category.
✨Tip: You can copy the path or delete by right-clicking on a Group or Category folder.
Group and Category
Objective
Both of these sections are Folder based; meaning you can bring in folders from anywhere you have access and also create folders anywhere you have access too.
Operation
Adding a New Group or Category

Click the Add (plus) button on the top Right, and click Add Group. Select the folder you want to add.
→ The selected folder will be added as a group.
- Double-click the added group folder, and click the Add (plus) button on the top of the category tab and click Add Category.
→ The Add Category window appears. - Enter the category name and click the OK button.
→ The category is added to the selected group.
Editing Group or Category

Select the folder you want to edit and Right click to see your options
- Copy the Path
→ Path to the explorer folder is copied. - Delete
→ The folder is deleted.

Line
This is an optional sub-category or "stage" between Category and Style.
Add a Line tier between Category and Style to create a more precise and detailed library structure.
- Click
Add button in the Style stage and click Group Style by Line option.
- In Add Line window, set the name and thumbnail and click OK button.
→ It becomes the upper level above Style in the hierarchy. This allows multiple styles to be grouped under a Line.
- Click
Add button on the right side of the Line to add another Line.
✨Tip: When clicking Add Line with Same Style option, all Styles and Blocks within the selected Line are duplicated and added as a new Line. This can be useful when you want to reuse the same structure but make slight changes to some Styles or Blocks.
- Right-click on the Line thumbnail to delete the selected Line or, change its thumbnail and name.
Style
The style is the what all your blocks will be linked to. It is best to think of the different styles as a type of fit so that all your blocks can easily fit together when mixing and matching different blocks.
※ Note: The name of the group and category that this style is saved in, is at the top left.
Adding Style

After making Category, you can create Style. Double-click the category folder in which you want to add a style, and click the Add button on the top of the style tab.
→ Style Section window appears.
→ If there is a garment in the 3D window, the thumbnail for that garment is automatically registered.

If you want to register thumbnail manually, click the camera icon and open the image file.

Enter the name of the style and press OK button.
→ Style will be added with the thumbnail and the name.
Editing Style

- Select the Style you want to edit and Right Click
→ The Style Selection pop up will come up again and allow you to change the Thumbnail, and Style Name. - Delete
→ If there are blocks within this style a Warning will pop up that the blocks included will be erased and to ask if you would still like to proceed.
- Select the Style you want to edit and Right Click
Block
These are the different pattern pieces that make up one full style. You can add in multiple patterns for one block, they will be what you will use to mix and create different variations of a style.
Adding a Block Section
※Note: For automatic block creation, please refer to the "Auto Block Creation" section below.

Click the thumbnail of the style that you want to add block, then click the Add (plus) icon and click Add Block Type on the top right.
→ Create Add Block Type window appears.
※ Note: Style needs to be added in order to add Block.

After setting the information below, click the OK button.
Type Set the block type Tag Enter the block tag.
If you need to add 2 or more of the same type, categorize them through tags.
When the types and tags are added in the same status, the existing block type will be overwritten.
Adding a Pattern to a Block Section

- Within the added Block Section select the Add (plus) icon.
→ A Modular Creator pop up window will appear. - The Patterns for that block will then be selectable within the 2D window.
→ To select multiple pattern hold down the shift key
→ Once all the pattern are selected hit Enter on your key board - The Block Section window will pop up
→ The Block thumbnail will automatically be added based on 3D window
→ If you want to register a thumbnail manually you can select the camera icon to create New Thumbnail - The Thumbnail and name will automatically be added to the Block Section in the Modular Library
- Within the added Block Section select the Add (plus) icon.
Additional Options
- Right-Click the block thumbnail you want to edit

Select the appropriate menu options as needed.
Delete Selected Block Deletes the selected Block. Share Selected Block Share the selected block with other styles. Any changes made to the block will apply to all shared instances. Change Thumbnail Change the thumbnail. Replace with New Block Replace the existing block with a new one.
Auto Modular Labeling
Auto Modular Labeling is based on the results learned from numerous pattern data and analyzes which part of the pattern it is based on only the shape of the pattern.
- Click
Auto Modular Labeling button at the top right of the Style stage.
→ The automatically recognized blocks will be highlighted in colors corresponding to each block type.
- Check all that all patterns in the 2D window are properly assigned to the correct block types using the Modular Creator.
2-1. If any patterns are not recognized correctly, you can manually adjust or relabel them by clickingEdit Block button in the Modular Creator.
2-2. In the 2D window, select the patterns that match the block type you chose and then press the Enter key.
* You can select multiple patterns by holding the Shift key.
2-3. In Add Block File window, set the name and thumbnail and click OK button.
* The Block thumbnail will automatically be added based on 3D window.
- Click
Save Block button to set thumbnail image and file name, then click OK button.
→ The Check mark will then be activated to signal that this block is ready.
- Click Add button.
- After checking whether the block pattern is sewn well with other block patterns, click OK button.
* If you need to reset the sewing line, click the Cancel button to correct the sewing line and try again.
※Note: If you are adding a new block based on an existing block file,
you can add it directly without going through the Modular Creator by clicking Add button within each Block section, such as Front Body or Sleeves.
Modular Configurator
This is specifically for saving out style or blocks. This method brings you directly to the Modular Creator which makes saving out styles or blocks a little quicker.
Save Style:

Select the Group & Category to save this style under
→ Can also create a new Group or Category using the add button at the top - Select the Add button to add a new Style

The Style Section Window will appear
→ If there is a garment in the 3D window, the thumbnail for that garment is automatically registered. - If you want to register thumbnail manually, select Create New Thumbnail and open the image file.

Enter the name of the style and press OK button.
→ Style will be added with the thumbnail and the name.
Save Block:

Select the Group & Category to save this style under
→ Can also create a new Group or Category using the add button at the top -
Select the Style to save the blocks under
→ Can also create a new style using the add button at the top -
Add in the Block Type using the Add button at the top
※Note: Can also use the Auto Block Creation tool this will automatically add in all the blocks and assign all patterns to the coinciding blocks -
Create New Block Type window appears.
→ After setting the information below, click the OK button.Type Set the block type
※Note:→ the block type is added to the selected style.
Tag Enter the block tag.

Modular Library Options
Here is where you can configure Modular setting / options.

Click Main Menu ▶ Settings ▶ Preferences ▶ Other in the top menu.
Configure Modular Options as needed.

Prevent Blocks Mix and Match across Different Styles |
To protect the users from apply different block fits together, turn on the option Prevent Mix and Match. When Prevent Mix and Match is active a Warning pop up will appear when a block from one style is being applied to a separate style. |

Notch Sewing | To save out a specific sewing relationship activate the Notching Sewing option. The Modular Sewing tags will then follow the notch placements for sewing relationships. |
