Objective
Express fur more realistically by adjusting Fur Parameters and Fur Shape to visualize different shaped and color fur in the 3D window.
Location
Object Browser ▶ Fabric ▶ Property Editor ▶ Material ▶ Type ▶ Fur_Strand
Operation
-
Apply the Fur_Strand material from the material type option, referring to the 'Location' indicated above.
* Fur can be previewed in 3D Window with Default Render and Quality Render, and Interactive Render.
-
Select one of the presets to express Fox, Mink, Angora, Sherpa and more.
Fur Material Properties
Properties Description Texture Mapping
Repeat Controls how many times the texture pattern repeats across the fur surface. Higher values create more repetitions of the pattern, resulting in a denser appearance. Unified When enabled, applies the texture consistently across all fur strands for a uniform look. When disabled, each strand uses the texture based on its individual position, creating more natural variation. Type Select Fur_Strand to edit Fur Parameters and Fur Shape. Fur Preset Select Fur preset from Default, Angora, Fox, Mink Skin, Mohair, Muskrat Belly, Plush, Rabbit, Raw Edge Denim, Terry Cloth and Custom. Materials Set the Fabric properties. Fur Parameters
Melanin Configure the saturation of the fur's original color. Higher Melanin values create more saturated colors, while lower values result in lighter colors. Pheomelanin Configure how reddish the fur appears. Higher Pheomelanin values create redder fur. The Pheomelanin value is applied proportionally to the Melanin value and has no effect when Melanin is set to 0. Glossiness Configure the shininess of the fur. Higher values make the fur appear shinier when light is applied. Softness Adjust the smoothness of the fur. Higher Softness values create smoother fur, while lower values result in rougher fur. Fur Gradation Color
Color Select the mid and the tip color of the gradation.
Position Adjust the length of the fur where Mid and Tip Color is applied.
Interpolation Naturally blend the borders of tip, mid, and root colors.
Fur Shape
Base Length (mm) Configure the length of the fur. Higher the value is, longer the fur is.
Thickness (mm) Configure the thickness of a single thread of the fur. Higher the value is, thicker the fur is.
Bend Configure the bending strength of the fur. Higher the value is, more affected by the gravity and bends more. Taper Differentiate the thickness of the fur between its root and the end. Higher the value is, thinner the fur becomes toward the end. On the other hand, lower the value is, similar the thickness is between the root and the end. Density (inch2) Configure how fur are closely placed. Higher the value is, more dense the fur is. On the other hand, lower the value is, more scattered the fur is. Segments Configure how many sections a single thread of fur is divided into. When the fur is long and has higher Bending value, the fur must have higher Segments value to express the Bending smoothly and realistically. However, for the short and straight fur, the Segments value is not as significant. Maps Use Base Maps to express different length, thickness, density, curl, gravity, bend, bend direction and initial direction within a single Pattern.
0 is multiplied to the values when a Map is black. On the other hand, 1 is multiplied to the values when a Map is white.
Gravity Force Apply the force of gravity.
Vector Manually apply the Gravity value to each axis.
Curl Radius (mm) Configure the size of the curl. Higher values create larger curls, while lower values create smaller curls. Number Configure the number of curls. Higher values create more curls in the fur, while lower values create fewer curls. Variance
Length Express uniform or irregular fur length. Higher values create more irregular fur lengths, while lower values create more uniform lengths.
Thickness Express uniform or irregular fur thickness. Higher values create more irregular fur thickness, while lower values create more uniform thickness. Direction Express uniform or irregular fur bending direction. Higher values create more irregular bending directions, while lower values create more uniform bending directions. Gravity Express uniform or irregular gravity effect. Higher values create more irregular gravity effects, while lower values create more uniform gravity effects.
※Note: Gravity effect only applies when the Bending value is not 0.Curl Radius Express uniform or irregular curl radius. Higher values create more irregular curl radius, while lower values create more uniform curl radius. Randomization Seed Change the seed value to generate a different random pattern for the fur. Each seed creates a unique but consistent variation. -
Select a fur preset from Physical Properties and fine-tune the physical property details to meet your specific requirements.
※Note:
-
Fur Strand is supported only in the window system at this moment.
-
Fur Strand is not currently supported for macOS due to rendering speed considerations.
-
Fur_Strand can be applied to all objects except Avatar and Stitch.
- If you create Fur_Strand and export USD, there would be an option to include fur strand data.
