Objective
Modify existing Trims and apply them to garments with the following features.
※Note:
- To learn how to import OBJ as Trim, please refer to articles 3D File (OBJ) Import/Export, 3D File (FBX) Import/Export and Trim Style Window (Ver. 2024.1)
- To Learn and modify Trim Properties, please refer to the Trim Properties page.
Glue Trim
Objective
Glue 3D Trims onto Garments and simulate together (ver3.0.0).
Operation
Glue Trim
- Click the loaded Trim with the Select/Move tool.
→ Gizmo for the selected OBJ appears.
- Click on the Glue icon next to the OBJ Gizmo, then mouse over the desired location.
→ preview tags along the mouse.
- Click on the desired location.
→ Selected trim automatically attaches to the place.

Use the Gizmo to adjust the position and angle.
※ Note: To cancel the arrangement, press Esc on the keyboard.

Activate Simulation.
→ Trim is now being simulated along with the rest of the Garments.
※Note: You can select multiple trims and move or rotate those by using Gizmo. (ver. 11 )
Delete Trim
Objective
Delete selected Trims
Operation
-
Select Trim in the 3D viewport
- Click Delete key on Keyboard to remove.
→ Selected OBJ is now being removed from the Garments. - Delete trim can also be done through the right click options menu.
Transform Trims
Objective
Transform trim as needed.
Operation
Via the Scale Gizmo
Click and drag on the X, Y, or Z-axis to transform the Trim.
Axis | Description |
X-Axis | The red axis of the Gizmo. Click and drag the x-axis to transform the trim along its x-axis. |
Y-Axis | The yellow-green axis of the Gizmo. Click and drag the y-axis to transform the trim along its y-axis. |
Z-Axis | The blue axis of the Gizmo. Click and drag the z-axis to transform the along its z-axis. |
Square | The yellow square located in the center of the Scale Gizmo. Click and drag the square to transform the trim, while maintaining its x, y, and z ratio. |
→ The trim is transformed.

When the trim transformation is complete, click the Scale button again.
→ The Gizmo used for moving and rotating trims appears.
Via the Property Editor through Trim Style Window

Follow the indicated guideline below:
Main Menu ▶ Window ▶ Trim
- Select the trim style to be transformed.
→ The properties of the trim appear in the Property Editor.
- Find the Scale option.
- Enter the desired value for the below options.
Option | Description |
X-Axis | Enter the desired x-axis value. |
Y-Axis | Enter the desired y-axis value. |
Z-Axis | Enter the desired z-axis value. |
Maintain Ratio | Toggle this option on to adjust an OBJ while maintaining its x, y, and z ratio. |
Set Trim Stiffness (ver. 2024.2)
Objective
Semi-Elastic Trim can be achieved when reducing stiffness value.
Operation

Select Trim in the 3D window.

In the Property Editor, adjust Stiffness Value.
→ When Stiffness Value is reduced, the trim will be slightly bent when sufficient force is applied.
→ To get more rigid Trim simulation, increase the Stiffness Value.
※Note: The Stiffness of the trim can only be set when the trim material is in the "active" state.
Right-Click Menu
Objective
Set extra Trim Options include Trim Simulation toggles, Unglue, refresh Trim Textures and export selected Trim to USD layer.
Operation

Select Trim in the 3D viewport.

Right-click on the selected Trim.
→ Trim is now being selected and Trim Options pop-up menu appears.

Select All Trims | Select all Trims in the 3D window. | |
Delete |
Delete selected Trim. - or use keyboard shortcut: Del |

Copy selected trim. - or use keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + C |

Paste |
Pasted copied trim. - or use keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + V |

Simulation (ver. 2024.2) |
Freeze |
Freeze selected trims. - Trim collides with garments but maintain the 3D position with no gravity influence. |
Activate |
Activate simulation on selected trims. - Trim collides with garments and influenced by weight and gravity. |

Deactivate |
Deactivate selected trims. - Trim does not collide with garments and maintains it’s 3D position. |

Unglue |
Unglue trim from garment if glue function is applied. - This option will not be available if glue function is not applied. |

Hide Trim | Hide selected trim or trims. | |
Refresh Textures | Refresh selected trims textures. | |
Export to USD Layer (ver. 12.1) |
Export Trim to USD authoring layer, or create a new USD file with the selected trims. - To learn more on USD export and USD layer editor in Marvelous Designer. Please move to USD file Compatibility page. |
※Note:
- To copy and paste multiple trims, hold down Shift on the keyboard and select all trims to be copied, then perform the procedure above.
- When copying and pasting multiple trims, they must all be placed within a Pattern.
